Our story began in 1974, when Jim Utecht, a history teacher from upstate New York, transitioned into the automotive industry. Over the years, Jim worked with major brands including Chevrolet, Nissan, Acura, Honda, Subaru, Ford, and AMC, gaining the experience and dedication needed to launch his own dealership—Torrington Toyota—in 1992.

Thanks to his commitment to fair pricing, customer care, and community involvement, Torrington Toyota quickly became a top-rated dealership in Connecticut.

In 2003, Jim’s son Dave Utecht joined the family business, learning every aspect of dealership operations from the ground up. That hands-on experience and attention to detail helped the Utecht family earn numerous awards, including 18 President’s Awards, Best in Town, Best New Car Dealer, and Best Used Vehicle Dealer. Today, the Toyota store sells over 1,000 vehicles annually and services more than 1,000 vehicles per month.
